Financial services recruitment 'needs innovators'
It is vital that candidates innovate to find financial services jobs in the current economic climate, it has been claimed.
Alistair Cox, head of recruitment organisation Hays, has told the Financial Times that the jobs market is "brutal", but said people looking for sales jobs and other work in the City of London may be able to overcome the problems by being more innovative in thinking about how to set themselves apart from other applicants.
"People are going to have to be innovative; they are going to have to differentiate themselves," he told the newspaper.
However, new figures from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) have suggested that the worst of the recession could well be over, meaning new sales jobs and work in other sectors could start to spring up in the future.
In a survey of a wide variety of companies, the BCC reported improving levels of business and suggested most had suffered the worst of the recession and are now coming out the other side.
While the BCC did not suggest a recovery is imminent, the survey does support the idea that the UK jobs market may be showing signs of improvement following the slump at the beginning of the year.
