More than 1,000 jobs to be created in Scottish development

Plans were unveiled yesterday for a £250 million housing, retail and business development which could create more than 1,000 jobs.

Developers claim that the construction in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, will create the jobs over 15 years, helping to reinvigorate the local economy.

The Mill of Forest plan will include up to 1,500 houses, shops, a hotel and business park, creating sales jobs and others in construction and leisure.

Graeme Bone, director of Drum Property Group, a joint developer in the scheme, said: "This is a sizeable development for the Stonehaven area and the wider Aberdeenshire region and studies provide robust evidence of the far reaching economic benefits it will bring to the north-east."

David Scott, operations director of fellow developer Barratt East Scotland, said that the site is ideally located for access to the main road network, railways and the future Aberdeen western peripheral route.

Earlier this year, business services firm Capita announced plans to bring 200 financial sales jobs to its site in Stirling as part of its contract with insurance company Axa.
